Installing Octave on Mac (Snow Leopard)

The Octave binary needs a few things in order to run successfully, most of which you should already have on your OS if you have installed XCode

  • Octave.app and Gnuplot.app (bundled)
  • Aquaterm (bundled with Gnuplot)
  • X11 (already installed with XCode or available from XQuartz)

On to installation

  1. “Install” Octave.app and Gnuplot.app by dragging them into the Applications folder. Gnuplot should be located in the extras folder of the mounted Octave dmg file.
  2. You *may* need to make gnuplot visible in your PATH like so:
